University entrance

THE FOLLOWING GRID GIVES INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO APPLY TO AMERICAN AND CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES.  

Many students use a private specialist, but this person does need to negotiate closely with the school in terms of deadlines for references and other required material.

January of the première year

Active research into universities using internet. Find out about courses and sats  requirements. Begin with collegeboard.com website.

Jan onwards.

Work out your sats examination timetable: you may need to take these several times to get the score required.

Find out sats scores requirements for the universities of your choice.

Check status of the French baccalaureat in the universities which you prefer.

Jan onwards.  

Put together comprehensive file of achievements certificates etc.

March onwards

Interview with programme university counselor.

June to September

Visit favoured universities if possible.

Get hold of all application forms from the universities you prefer and write all first drafts of any essays and personal writing which they require.

 Ensure you know who your referees are going to be and how you will arrange for French teachers to write the required references.

Investigate and organize translation requirements.

September to December

Follow timeline proposed for British university applicants and if you are making an early application you should follow the Oxbridge timetable of deadlines.

January onwards

Await decisions.
